Custom Curved Staircases Chicago North Shore

Custom Curved Staircases for Chicago Homes

A curved staircase is one of the most difficult things a stair builder can attempt, and one of the most striking things a homeowner can own. Every riser, stringer, and rail on a curved stair has to be measured, cut, and fit individually, since no two steps in the run are quite the same. There's no template for this kind of work. It's done by hand, by people who have built curved stairs before and know how the geometry has to come together before the first piece of wood is cut.

At HL Stairs, curved staircases are where our craftsmanship shows most clearly. We've designed and built sweeping curved stairs for entry foyers, open-concept great rooms, and multi-story homes throughout Winnetka, Lake Forest, Glencoe, Highland Park, Kenilworth, Wilmette, and the surrounding North Shore communities. Whether the home calls for a dramatic spiral stair that wraps a full three stories, or a gentler curved run that softens a more traditional layout, the staircase is built to match the architecture of the home, not bent to fit a standard kit.

Project Gallery

Below is a gallery of curved staircases we've completed for homeowners, architects, and builders across the North Shore. Each project shown here was custom-designed for its home: no two curved staircases in our portfolio are alike, because no two clients' homes, budgets, or visions are alike either.

If you're an architect or builder specifying a curved staircase for a North Shore project, or a homeowner planning a renovation that includes a new entry stair, we'd encourage you to browse the gallery below and reach out to talk through what's possible for your space. Curved stairs take more lead time and more planning than a standard straight run, so the earlier we're brought into the design conversation, the more options you'll have.
